On 072008 at approximately
2224 hours, the Medford Police Department received a 911 call from a neighbor
reporting a domestic disturbance occurring at
Upon arrival, officers found
Amy Escobar (41 years) and Rand Burgess (20 years) suffering from stab
wounds. The suspect, Jose Serna-Padilla
(43 years), fled the scene prior to the officer’s arrival.
Officers learned that there
had been a disturbance involving Amy Escobar and her boyfriend, Jose
Serna-Padilla. Serna-Padilla allegedly
physically assaulted Escobar and then armed himself with a kitchen knife and began
stabbing her. Escobar’s adult daughter
and her boyfriend, Burgess, intervened in an effort to get Serna-Padilla off
Escobar. Serna-Padilla then stabbed Burgess.
Serna-Padilla fled the scene
on a bicycle as neighbors heard the commotion and began calling police.
A Medford Police canine
officer and his partner, K9 Rudi, were called to the scene in an attempt to
locate the suspect. Approximately 20
minutes later, K9 Rudi located the suspect hiding in a nearby field. Serna-Padilla was taken into custody without
incident.
The two victims were treated
by Medford Fire and Mercy Flights medics and transported to RVMC for
treatment. Escobar suffered multiple
stab wounds to her left arm and right leg.
Burgess was stabbed in his upper right arm. The injuries to Escobar and Burgess are not
considered life threatening. There were
three children inside the residence during the disturbance that were not
injured.

He
was lodged at the Jackson County Jail, charged with Attempted Murder, Assault I
x 2 counts, Assault IV x 3 counts.
